Dispatch from Calgary – Prologue

Calgary Alberta, Canada; August 29, 2012
Note to reader: We are very excited that our newest showroom, Resource Furniture Calgary will open this fall. This is the first blog post by Mark Adolf and Darren Malin, the owners of RF Calgary, chronicling their adventures.

June 1st, 2012 we embarked on a new journey called “Sam Livingston.” Some of you might not know who this fellow called Sam is, so let’s start there.  After an unsuccessful venture in the California gold rush in 1849, Sam, with his family, ultimately settled in the Calgary area in 1876. Sam Livingston is considered to be the “first citizen” of Calgary. He wasn’t the first person to live in Calgary but somehow was able to secure the title of “first citizen”. Not sure what all was happening behind the scenes but he was a part of the freemasons. Interesting. First citizen it is. I’m guessing at this juncture you are asking, “who really cares”? Well, I’m glad you asked. The significance of our good ol’ buddy Sam is not his failed gold expedition, or his successful business ventures, or his 14 kids which, shortly after his last one was born, Sam died (did I not mention that?), or his involvement with the freemasons in order to secure the first citizen designation…no the reason is simple. June 1st, 2012 Resource Furniture Alberta took over a space at the Sam Livingston building in Calgary. Stayed tuned for more posts from the “Sam”.
